Required Clarity Internet Explorer Configuration

Back To Blog

In the past few weeks I’ve had an unusually large number of requests regarding issues with configuring Clarity for new users or existing users who receive a new computer. Typically the problems experienced are the menu are not appearing, or if they do appear they are sized too short for the number of items in the list. In rare cases users may also see Clarity only being presented in about 15% of the total screen space.

The following entry is an excerpt from the official Clarity / IBM Client Installation guide on which IE settings are required for Clarity to work properly in Internet Explorer.

Step 1: Add Clarity to an Appropriate IE Security Zone
Each client machine must have the Clarity URL added to the list of Trusted Web Sites in IE.

To add the Clarity URL to the Trusted Sites Zone, perform the following steps:

  • 1. Open Internet Explorer and select Tools > Internet Options. The Internet Options dialog appears.
  • 2. In the Internet Options dialog click on the Security Tab, select the Trusted Sites icon and click on the Sites button.
  • 3. The Trusted Sites dialog appears. Verify that the URL used to access Clarity is in the list. Click on the Add button.

Step 2: Configure Zone Security Level

At some clients simply modifying the zone security level to Low is enough is get Clarity working fine.

Others will need to follow the specific settings noted below. It is also becoming more common these days for the corporate IT department to blocking user access to these areas – in which case you will want to either provide them a link to this blog or with the configuration settings below.

  • In the Internet Options dialog click on the Custom level button. The Security Settings – Trusted Sites Zone dialog will appear. Configure the zone as noted below:
